The Golden Gate Bridge, however, is the city’s signature landmark. The Golden Gate National Park is considered to be one of the largest urban national parks in the world. It was established in 1972 and encompasses almost 76,000 square acres of parkland. The park’s many attractions include Alcatraz, the Presidio of San Francisco, and Fort Mason. The park is also the site of 19 different ecosystems and has the fourth largest number of protected or endangered wildlife species.
